ITG Lunch event: Disentangling illicit trade in research data: procedures and factors for approval/disapproval

When:Th 21-10-2021 12:00 - 13:00
Where:Norman Building (Lutkenieuwstraat 5)

Together with The Illicit Trade Group (ITG) we are organising the lunch event: 'Disentangling illicit trade in research data: procedures and factors for approval/disapproval' on 21 October 2021.

The quest to advance the collection and use of data has become urgent in the globalized and digitalized world, further increasing the efforts on exponential growth of data repository. New possibilities for data technology and knowledge building became even a science itself. Yet, the practice of trading data for knowledge building is nothing new in our world, especially in science. As stated on the website of ITG: “By definition, the term “illicit” signals that these practices are not permitted by law or that they are disapproved of by society.”

This begs the question: what are the procedures and factors for approval/disapproval of contributing research data, especially when approval turns into disapproval? During the event Reinder Broekstra and Marc Florea will explain the current state of knowledge, share some new insights from ongoing studies and discuss their potential implications.
