Research interests

Dr. Trishla Sinha is a clinician–researcher specializing in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. After obtaining her MD, she completed her PhD (cum laude) in 2025 at the University Medical Center Groningen. During her doctoral training, she worked on the Lifelines-NEXT cohort, a longitudinal study of 1,500 mother–infant pairs followed from pregnancy until 8 years of age. Her PhD research focused on the role of maternal factors, including the maternal microbiome, in shaping the infant gut microbiome and its implications for future health outcomes. Her work also included the CS Baby Biome randomized clinical trial, which investigated the impact of maternal antibiotic prophylaxis during cesarean section on the infant gut microbiome (Sinha et al, Cell Host and Microbe, 2024). Following the completion of her PhD, Dr. Sinha continued her work as a postdoctoral researcher at the Groningen Microbiome Center. Her current research aims to identify microbial factors involved in disease development and to translate these findings into strategies for disease prediction and prevention.
