S. (Sven) Gins, MA

Sven Gins works as a researcher and education coordinator at the University of Groningen.

At present, he investigates how other animals are implicated in definitions of ‘humanity’. His research project, Homo Imperfectus, coheres around encyclopaedias, mechanical animals, and so-called animal trials from fifteenth-century Burgundy, three historical antecedents of the growing interest in the interplay between humans, nature, and artificial intelligence.

Sven is also interested in the immaterial heritage of the Middle Ages and how elements of this historical period are represented and utilised in present-day popular culture, particularly in games and TV. He is currently developing an educational board game, Monstrum, based on his ongoing NWO research.
