P. (Paraskevi) Karka, PhD

Speerpunten
Dr. Paraskevi Karka is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Sustainable Process Design at the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Groningen. Her research focuses on modelling, process design, and sustainability assessment of chemical processes, including life cycle assessment (LCA), techno-economic analysis (TEA), technology assessment and scale-up aspects. She also works on the development of models to support decision-making in the early stages of process design using machine learning.
Her research is applied to biorefineries, biofuel production processes, circular economy and industrial symbiosis systems. She has authored several papers in scientific journals, including the International Journal of Life Cycle Assessment, Energy Strategy Reviews, and Chemical Engineering Science, among others. She has also participated in numerous conferences in Europe and the United States, including the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Annual Meeting and the European Symposium on Computer Aided Process Engineering.
Dr. Karka has participated in several EU and national research projects at the National Technical University of Athens, Chalmers University of Technology, and the University of Groningen.
