Nicolas Gäckle is a lecturer at the Department of International Relations and International Organization (IRIO). He obtained his PhD in International Relations from the University of Groningen in 2026. His doctoral work developed a conceptualisation of experiential biopolitics, grounded in an exploration of governmental problematisations of pandemic experiences during COVID-19, such as fatigue, hopelessness, and pandemic dreaming. More broadly, he is interested in how International Relations theory responds to the Anthropocene, the affective correlates of the climate crisis and their governance, as well as critique, negativity, and the limits of relationality. His work has been published in the European Journal of International Relations, Review of International Studies and Mobilities.

Previously, Nicolas was a visiting fellow at the Collaborative Research Center “Dynamics of Security” at the University of Marburg. He holds a BA in Political Science and Public Law and an MA in Peace Research and International Relations from the University of Tübingen (Germany)
