Nikos Efthimiou is a Senior Scientist at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), working on motion correction and advanced image reconstruction for ultra-fast dynamic PET. He has more than ten years of experience in medical imaging, with a strong focus on Positron Emission Tomography (PET).

Before joining UMCG, Nikos was an Instructor at the Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Research. His expertise spans detector technologies such as silicon photomultipliers, front-end electronics, system and detector modeling, statistical image reconstruction, absolute quantification, as well as motion and scatter correction. He has developed energy-based scatter correction algorithms for long axial FOV PET scanners and has contributed to emerging technologies such as BGO-Cherenkov detectors.

Nikos’ past interests include synergistic motion and attenuation correction in PET/MR systems and the development of advanced methods for dynamic PET imaging. His interdisciplinary background has led to numerous accomplishments in academic research.

Having lived in three countries, Nikos is fluent in English and Greek. His colleagues describe him as analytical, thorough, committed, and hard-working.
