I currently work on a number of research projects.

  1. The first one examines the proliferation of emergency credit to small businesses in the United States during COVID-19. In this joint work with colleagues Mark Cassell (Kent State) and Marc Schneiberg (Reed College) we analyze how a negative policy feedback mechanism and institutional heterogeneity in lender ecologies interact with race and class in American banking. First results have been published in Economic Development Quarterly (2023).
  2. The second project concerns the corporate governance of listed European non-financial firms. Against the backdrop of an ongoing transformation of corporate control due to the re-concentration of ownership, the project seeks to identify the impact of new institutional investors on corporate behavior.
  3. The third project is joint work with Christine Trampusch and Jonas Horn (University of Cologne) and deals with emerging network structures in the German business sector. In the wake of the digital transformation of industrial firms we map the process of network formation among digital technology and non-financial businesses, which could lead to a convergence of preferences regarding regulatory policies and new power resources for influencing them.

For an overview of former projects, my wider research interests and a full list of publications please have a look at my CV.
