Research interests

My PhD (October 2023 - present) aims to investigate ferroptosis pathways and novel research techniques in parkinsonisms. My primary focus is to study specific markers of ferroptotic cell death, including iron metabolism and lipid peroxidation, and how these may be affected by protein inclusions in Parkinson's disease, as well as parkinsonian variants, such as Progressive Supranuclear Palsy and Corticobasal Degeneration. For this, I explore several experimental techniques, to include post-mortem analysis, transcriptomics and pharmacological manipulations in neuronal cell cultures. My PhD is inserted in the department of Pathology and Medical Biology at the UMCG, as well as Molecular Pharmacology (GRIP) at RUG.
