M. (Marc Esteve del Valle) Esteve Del Valle, PhD

Expertise
Marc Esteve del Valle is a Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Media and Journalism Studies. His research and teaching interests lie at the intersection of digital media and social change, with a particular focus on mediated climate change communication.
Marc’s work centers on studying how the climate crisis is (re)presented, discussed, and debated across social media platforms. He is especially interested in the networked publics that form around climate issues: how individuals, activists, and institutions navigate visibility, authority, and emotion in algorithmic environments. He studies communication phenomena such as online environmental polarization, climate misinformation, and communication about AI's environmental footprint.
Marc’s broader research also examines how platforms shape public discourse and participation, whether through the dynamics of political debate, the educational uses of digital platforms, or the political economy of streaming services. Across all of this work, Marc’s is driven by questions like: Whose voices are being amplified? How are digital platforms shaping collective understanding? What new forms of power and exclusion are emerging online?
Marc has published more than 50 peer-reviewed scientific articles in leading media and communication journals. He is the author of one book and one edited volume, and has received multiple research grants and awards from several public institutions and funding agencies in Spain, Canada, and the Netherlands.
