Expertise

Mudar Al-Khufash is a PhD candidate in Media Studies at the University of Groningen. His research examines how diasporic Palestinian masculinities are formed as they emerge out of settler-colonial violence, treating violence as a central object of inquiry. Focusing on social media and widely circulated audiovisual platforms since October 7, 2023, his work analyzes how settler sovereignty (re)produces masculine subjectivities through a dialectic of highly mediated military domination and practices of popular Indigenous refusal. His project attends to affective registers and practices of care as refusal that sustains communal life under conditions of dispossession. Alongside his academic research, Mudar is the founder and creative director of awhām e.V., an annual print journal and platform dedicated to queer migrant sensibilities and the distribution of counter-hegemonic forms of knowledge. His broader practice bridges research, art, and pedagogy through performances, workshops, and exhibitions. Mudar has facilitated lectures and projects with institutions including the University of Cincinnati, Kunsthochschule Berlin Weißensee, Béznă Theatre, and mmag Foundation, as well as with grassroots collectives in Berlin.
