Main Scientific Activities and Results.

High precision measurements and novel equipment development in the fields of Atomic Physics, Laser Physics, Nuclear Physics, Particle Physics, Surface Science. The completed research projects and their results include: most precise tests of the Standard Model in Particle Physics (test of Lepton Number Conservation, setting of stringent bounds on New Physics Models, ruling out of several Speculative Models, observation of discrepancy between experimental value of muon magnetic anomaly and standard theory, test of Lorentz and CPT Invariance, QED tests); determination of most precise Fundamental Constants (muon mass, fine structure constant, muon charge), verification of Charge Quantization; Cluster Spectroscopy (first observation of collective cluster de-excitation by energy transfer to single desorbing atoms); Ion Trapping (observation of Collective Oscillations).Ongoing research includes: Searches for permanent Electric Dipole Moments (muon, atoms, nuclei); precision studies of Nuclear β -decay ; measurements of Atomic Parity Violation in single ions. The major technological larger development projects include: design and construction of Narrowband Dye-, Crystal- and Semiconductor-Lasers; calibration of molecular secondary Frequency Standards; precision Interferometry; interferometric optical Frequency Division; particle Detectors; fast Electronics; NMR based high precision absolute Magnetometry; development of Ultra Slow Muon Beam; setup of the TRI m P Facility at KVI .
