Harry van Goor is an experimental nephropathologist with a major interest in the pathogenesis of renal disease, renal aging and gasotransmitters. His research is embedded in the Groningen Kidney Center from which he is one of the directors. His PhD thesis was on the subject of macrophages and lipids in renal disease. He continued to work as a post doc after completing his thesis on the development of chronic renal disease at the University of Groningen and performed his postdoctoral training in Penn state University, Hershey Medical Center,

USA. From 1995 onwards he worked on chronic allograft nephropathy in Groningen and was appointed assistant professor in 1998. His research group expanded during the years, but the focus remained chronic renal disease in experimental models and human biopsies. He was appointed Associate Professor in 2002 and Full Professor in 2009.

 

His research focus in the present years is on the protective role of hydrogen sulphide and other gastotransmitters in various diseases. He is now involved in various projects with a multitude of national and international researchers. He is appointed as a member of the management Committee of an European COST Grant on gasotransmitters.
