F.P.A.M. (Florence) van Hunsel

Prof. dr. Florence van Hunsel is a pharmacist and senior epidemiologist at the Netherlands Pharmacovigilance Centre Lareb, where she has been employed since 2005. She currently holds a position as Lead Safety Innovation & senior epidemiologist in the infectious diseases team. Previously, she was Head of Signal detection at Lareb for 10 years and coordinated the signal detection work during the Covid-19 pandemic.
She became Professor by special appointment of Pharmacovigilance at the University of Groningen (RUG), effective November 1, 2025. The chair is housed within the Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy (GRIP), in the department of PharmacoTherapy, -Epidemiology and -Economics.
Van Hunsel’s research focuses on methodological innovation in drug- and vaccine pharmacovigilance.
She is a member of the Signal Management Review Technical (SMART) Working Group of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and a member of the VAC4EU (Vaccine monitoring Collaboration for Europe) network and the Vaccine Special Interest Groups (SIGs) of ISoP and ISPE.
Florence has worked on approximately 150 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and is an editorial board member of several scientific journals.
