Student IT Panel

The Student IT Panel is a voluntary student initiative dedicated to improving the digital experience at the University of Groningen. The panel serves as a formal bridge between the student body and the Center for Information Technology (CIT), ensuring that student perspectives are incorporated into the development and improvement of the university's IT services, including Brightspace, Ocasys, the scheduling system and Wi-Fi.

Goals

The Student IT Panel works towards a more accessible and responsive digital environment by focusing on five key priorities:

  1. increasing the panel's visibility among the student body
  2. improving student access to IT resources
  3. gathering meaningful and structured feedback
  4. advocating for practical and student-friendly solutions
  5. fostering open dialogue through both digital and in-person engagement

Background

The panel was established in 2023 by the CIT's student ambassador, who had been closely involved in the implementation of the university's new digital learning environment in 2022. Upon observing that CIT's Agile development process — which incorporated structured feedback cycles from staff across the faculties — did not yet include students as key stakeholders, the ambassador founded the Student IT Panel to address this gap. Its establishment marked a formal commitment to involving students alongside university staff in shaping the university's digital infrastructure.

Members

As of November 2025, the panel is made up out of faculty cluster representatives, each responsible for gathering and conveying the IT-related perspectives of students within their faculties.

Feedback

As of 2026, the Student IT Panel is launching a dedicated space for students to formally share feedback and lodge complaints regarding CIT services. Students are encouraged to make use of this channel to raise IT-related concerns, which the panel will collect and bring to the attention of the CIT.
