(Digital) Archives and Collections Research Group Launch

When:Fr 26-09-2025 09:30 - 11:30
Where:House of Connections, Grote Markt 21, 9712 HR Groningen

Make sure to join on Friday, 26 September 2025, at the House of Connections in Groningen for the launch of our new research group (Digital) Archives and Collections! The event runs from 9:30 to 11:30, and it promises to be a special occasion. Guest speaker Carine Zaayman will share her insights as part of the programme!

Carine Zaayman is joining us on the occasion of the public launch of the (Digital) Archives and Collections Research Group (D.AC). Situated within the Agricola School, D.AC grapples with methodological and epistemological challenges inherent in more recent archives and collections, spanning from official, structured archives to personal, unrefined, occasionally hidden, and so-called counter-collections from realms of development, security, conflict, and justice. After the lecture and the Q&A, there will be a chance to informally continue the conversation over coffee and cake.

Carine Zaayman

Carine Zaayman (RCMC, Wereldmuseum) is an artist, curator and scholar committed to a radical reconsideration of colonial archives and museum collections, specifically those holding strands of Khoekhoe pasts. She works to find ways to release the hold these archives have over our imaginations when we narrate the past, as well as how we might shape futures from it. In this lecture, titled 'Anarchives of the Relegated', she will recount how she came to formulate the anarchive as pertaining to the full sensorial experience of lived life that necessarily escapes documentary archive, and yet determines the ways in which the past remains alive in the present. She will explore what thinking and doing from the anarchive makes possible in relation to worlds and pasts that have been relegated by colonialism and the relegation of multivalent ways of knowing.

For any questions, please email Christine Andrä (c.i.andra rug.nl) and Renata Summa (r.de.figueiredo.summa rug.nl). We are looking forward to seeing you at the launch!
