NWO Veni and NWA Idea Generator for Jeffrey Buter
Dr. Jeffrey Buter, a postdoctoral fellow in the Feringa group at the Stratingh Institute for Chemistry, was awarded an NWO - VENI grant (250.000 euros) to develop a new treatment against Tuberculosis. His approach is based on a Trojan horse strategy: first the new medicine will be incorporated in the bacterial cell wall by using the bacterium’s own metabolism. This will be followed by light activation of the medicine to kill the infection.
Jeffrey also received an NWO - NWA Idea Generator grant (50.000 euros). This grant will allow him to develop new antibiotic free treatments against tuberculosis.
