The Engineering and Technology Institute Groningen (ENTEG) is pleased to announce the appointment of Martina Vanelli as Assistant Professor in the Smart Manufacturing Systems (SMS) group. This position is co-funded by Sectorplan Engineering.

Martina Vanelli research focuses on the analysis, design, and control of multi-agent and network systems, primarily with applications to electricity markets and socio-economic networks. She combines methods from game theory, optimization, and control to study collective decision-making, market mechanisms, and network dynamics in complex socio-technical systems.

Martina Vanelli received the B.Sc., M.Sc. (cum laude), and Ph.D. (with honours) degrees in Applied Mathematics from Politecnico di Torino, Italy, in 2017, 2019, and 2024, respectively. Her doctoral research, co-funded by Machine Learning Reply, focused on game-theoretic models for electricity markets. From January 2024 to May 2026, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the ICTEAM Institute of UCLouvain, Belgium, where she worked on nonlinear network identification and data-driven control.

Her research activities are in the areas of game theory, network systems, and data-driven control, with particular emphasis on energy systems and social networks. She has been involved in several national and international projects, including interdisciplinary outreach activities on artificial intelligence for education. In addition, she serves as associate editor for ECC 2026 and CPHS 2026, and as reviewer for several leading journals in systems and control.

Please join us in welcoming Martina to ENTEG and the University of Groningen!
