Michele Cucuzella will receive the Best PhD Thesis Award on New Challenges for Energy and Industry from the IEEE Italy Section. The award is sponsored by one of the major players of the electric power industry: ABB. The award will be presented during the Award Ceremony to be held at the 4th International Forum on Research and Technologies for Society and Industry. PhD Thesis Award consists of an honorarium of 2000 Euro and a Certificate of Honor.
Michele received the PhD degree from the University of Pavia, Italy in 2018 in the field of Systems and Control under the supervision of Professor Antonella Ferrara. His PhD thesis was entitled: ‘Design and Analysis of Sliding Mode Control Algorithms for Power Networks’.
From November 2017 Michele is a Postdoc at Discrete Technology & Production Automation, ENTEG, Faculty of Science and Engineering, University of Groningen under the supervision of Professor Jacquelien Scherpen. Michele’s research activities are mainly in the area of nonlinear control, sliding mode control and event-triggered control with application to power networks. He has (co-)authored more than 25 publications, including also international journal papers and the book ‘Advanced and Optimization Based Sliding Mode Control: Theory and Applications’ (SIAM), that it is expected to appear in 2019. Since January 2016 he is a member of the IEEE.
