Anastasiia Krushynska succesful in NWO-NRFU grant to strengthen research collaboration between Dutch and Ukrainian researchers
Anastasiia Krushynska from our ENTEG team, together with dr. Yaroslav Zagumennyj from the Institute of Hydromechanics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, has been awarded a grant as part of the NWO-NRFU Partnership Initiative. This initiative supports collaboration between Dutch and Ukrainian researchers, enabling them to continue their work despite the ongoing challenges in Ukraine.
The project, titled "Viscoelastic Coating for Controlling Turbulent Flow and Reducing Flow-Induced Vibrations", explores innovative ways to stabilize fluid flows—such as water moving through pipes—and reduce the damaging effects of turbulence. Turbulent flows often generate vibrations, noise, and energy losses, which can compromise the safety and efficiency of engineering systems. This research investigates the use of special viscoelastic coatings that can deform or absorb energy from the flow, naturally calming turbulence without the need for active control devices. Using advanced computer simulations, the team will study how these coatings interact with flowing fluids and identify the most effective designs. The results will support experimental validation and contribute to the development of safer, quieter, and more energy-efficient fluid systems.
This collaboration is part of the second funding round of the NWO-NRFU Partnership Initiative, which provides a total budget of €480,000 to support up to 16 projects. The initiative aims to integrate Ukrainian researchers into ongoing NWO projects, offering them the opportunity to expand their professional networks and contribute to international scientific advancements
