Abstarct: This work investigates vortex-induced vibration of circular cylinders at low Reynolds numbers by combining experiments, two-dimensional simulations, and fully three-dimensional fluid–structure interaction modelling.
The study clarifies how wake instabilities, spanwise force coherence, finite-span effects, and structural flexibility jointly govern the coupled response.
By bridging idealized infinite-cylinder models and realistic finite-span configurations, this thesis provides new insight into the interpretation and modelling of three-dimensional VIV phenomena.
