Summer/Winter Schools

2024

Between 19 and 23 February 2024 the Winter School on Changing Local Life-Worlds took place at IIT New Delhi, hosted by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (Prof. Sarbeswar Sahoo) and co-organized and co-funded by the University of Groningen (Dr. Peter Berger) and the Goethe University Frankfurt (Prof. Roland Hardenberg).
About 35 students from all over India and from Bangladesh participated, attended the lectures and discussed their own research ideas. Next to the organizers, teachers, researchers and activists from the UK, Germany and India participated.
For five days we engaged in intensive and engaged discussions on various aspects of changing life-worlds in different parts of India and the wider region. We discussed theories of cultural change, socio-economic transitions, factories as ethnographic fields, and consequences of development aid. The focus this year, however, was on education, especially education in relation to Adivasi communities and six sessions dealt with various aspects of this complex issue.
