Where:Faculty of Religion, Culture and Society (Oude Boteringestraat 38, Groningen)
Summer School Medieval Lived religion

We will be organizing a summer school on the topic of Medieval “Lived Religion” at the University of Groningen this summer. This interdisciplinary summer school programme is designed for Masters and PhD students. In this international summer school you will be challenged by leading specialists dealing with textual and material sources of medieval religious cultures. You will be challenged to question too neat distinction between “official” and “popular”, “text” and “materials”, “practice” and “doctrine”.

The programme consists of lectures, workshops, excursions, and assignments. By the end of this intensive week, participants can expect to be able identify challenges and approaches to medieval “lived religion” and to critically reflect on the uses of contemporary approaches to “lived religion” to the interdisciplinary study of the Middle Ages.

Leading experts in the field of music, liturgy, reform, inter-religious polemics, art, architecture including Prof. Dr. Sible de Blaauw (Radboud University) and Prof. Daniel DiCenso (Holy Cross College, Mass. USA) will be speaking at the summer school. Aside from the academic programme, there will be plenty of opportunities to make new connections with peers and lecturers to expand your network.

Those interested can find more information and apply for the summer school via our website.
