Historical chronologies

Annual records of civilisation only extend back to the mid 1st millennium BCE. Prior to this, there are fragmentary sequences in places like Egypt China and Mesopotamia that cannot be situated exactly in time.

As the radiation strikes were global, the increases in radiocarbon should be found in all plant material, not just known-age tree-rings. Therefore, if a spike event can be detected in an artefact, such as a timber building or a papyrus document, it should be possible to identify which spike in the known-age tree-rings it relates to, thereby dating it to the exact year. Building on this approach, the intention is to anchor the floating chronologies of ancient history precisely in time.
