Bernoulli Research Themes

As part of the discussion about how the Bernoulli Institute could boost its three collaborative themes (Computing and Cognition, Data, Systems and Society and Geometry and its applications), the Bernoulli Joint Strategy Committee would like to invite Bernoulli researchers to three theme meetings this winter that will

(1) bring the themes to the attention of our staff members,

(2) create a better understanding what expertise on such a theme is present in the various research groups,

(3) discuss possibilities of joint projects involving different research groups of the Bernoulli Institute (for example: within Computing and Cognition it is now possible to have CogniGron funded joint PhD projects involving only Bernoulli Institute research groups),

(4) discuss possibilities of joint bachelor's or master's projects within the themes, involving more than one discipline present in the Bernoulli Institute,

(5) discuss outreach opportunities for the specific theme,

(6) discuss possible ways in which the Bernoulli Institute may be able to boost activities within the theme at hand,

(7) possibly, learn about, and learn from recent successes within the theme.

Researchers might find these meetings useful to identify peers whose work might be relevant for their own projects, and to develop joint projects that in the future might benefit from initiatives such as CogniGron, the Netherlands AI Coalition, the North Netherlands Digital Hub, and AIM - AI and Mathematics.

Format:

1.5 h long meeting; will consist of 3-4 short presentations about how individual researchers and/or groups relate to a theme, followed by break away sessions (depending on the number of participants) for discussions, and concluding with a general report from the sessions/sum up.
