Title: Water hammer problem and its numerical analysis

Abstract:

The mathematical models of water flow in a pipeline system have been studied for a long time. There are various models such as linear, nonlinear, compressible and incompressible. In this thesis, I use 1d Euler equations with dynamical boundary conditions to study the water hammer problem, which includes the possible Dirac mass resulting from the sudden closure of the valve. The analysis is performed both analytically (linearization) and numerically (the Lax-Wendroff scheme).
