Title: Considerations on the Routh-Hurwitz conditions, and an application to epidemiology.

Abstract:

To investigate the stability of the endemic equilibrium of a behavioural-epidemiological
system, we discuss the geometric meaning of Routh-Hurwitz inequalities, and we use such
insight to prove the existence of Hopf bifurcation for the system.

In our model, the class of healthy individuals is informed on the disease and is also
subject to peer-pressure. It is the interaction between information and peer-pressure
that triggers the instability of the endemic equilibrium and the arousal of sustained oscillations.
