Colloquium Computer Science - Dr. Alptekin Kupcu, Koc University
Ttile: Security/Privacy Research at Koc University / Turkey
Abstract:
There will be two topics covered:
(1) Single Password Authentication
Security of our passwords is an everyday and very pressing problem. Users frequently reuse their passwords when authenticating to various online services. Combined with the use of weak passwords or honeypot/phishing attacks, this brings high risks to the security of the user's account information. We invented a mechanism such that a user may employ a single simple password to login to all websites securely, with proven security against dictionary attacks, phishing, honeypots, or even malware. Our system is easy to deploy, without requiring server-side changes.
(2) Security and Privacy & Machine Learning
Machine learning and cybersecurity have been mutually beneficial fields for years. Recently, with the emergence of critical deep learning applications, this relationship has become even more significant. This talk will address the intersection of cybersecurity, data privacy, and machine learning through various contemporary examples, discussing several attacks and cryptographic defense mechanisms. The presentation includes both the globally unique and pioneering methods we have developed, as well as selected studies from the literature.
