Title: I want one of those: the Diamond Light Source synchrotron
Abstract:
Volumetric datasets, represented as regular grids, are among the most fundamental objects of study in the field of scientific visualization. The respective algorithms have been developed and improved for at least three decades, and novel approaches continue to be explored. However, we rarely think about the generation or acquisition of such datasets. In this talk, I will share my experience of participating in an experiment at the Diamond Light Source synchrotron. I will provide details about the machine, its working principles, the employed workflows, and some observations regarding the handling of the resulting datasets. I will also discuss how visualization tools can improve workflows and highlight the challenges that need to be addressed.
