Title:
Image processing and its application in medical field

Abstract:
Image processing has lot of application in wellness of human being
from diagnosis of a disease to the therapy stage. There are wide
variety of the modalities employed in the hospitals like CT, MRI, PET
and US based on the clinical task. This presentation covers the
details from the tissues to the pixel intensities starting from image
acquisition to post processing. The journey covers the physics to
imaging of the tissues, the patient coordinate system, different
patient positions, the image acquisition with standard protocols and
slicing the 3D anatomy etc. Segmentation of the desired volume of
interest is a tough task in medical image post processing and the
accuracy of the segmentation results is still an open issue. The
second half covers, the 3D object segmentation, visualization using 2D
MPR and 3D volume rendering techniques and finally the quantitative
and qualitative validation of segmented objects. The greediness of the
human doesn’t end with only patient scan, also extends beyond. Some of
the beautiful pictures of the scan of flowers, aquatic animals and the
rare cases of Siamese twins will be shown.
