Title: A first look at slow-fast systems

Abstract:

he presence of several timescales is ubiquitous in nature: from the large scale of climate evolution to the microscopic scale of bursting neurons. Mathematicians model such phenomena by means of singular perturbations.The aim of this talk is to introduce some basic terminology related to slow-fast systems and to show (mostly) graphically the peculiarity of singular perturbations. We are going to use the language of dynamical systems, however no prior knowledge of the subject is required.
