SEES expedition jackets

Sponsored by NWO
Some extra information regarding the polar jackets you get to borrow from NWO during SEES.nl. Please read through also if you already took ‘your’ jacket home.
Hand-out strategy:
- Delivery. We send the jacket to your home address or institute. This option is preferred for Netherlands-based participants.
- Pick-up at Ortelius. This is the preferred option for researchers based outside the Netherlands. Deadline 30 April.

- Note: use of own gear is ok – especially for international researchers. We can supply an embroidered NPP logo on request.

Hand-in strategy
You will be asked to return the jacket after SEES.nl, as they are intended for continuous use in the polar regions. Jackets remain property of NWO. Return the jacket by parcel mail (see address below), or physically in Groningen or The Hague (on prior arrangement). All users – also those who pick-up the jacket on the Ortelius – are asked to return them individually, ensuring that they are dry and more-less clean.
Extended use can be arranged for researchers with Arctic or Antarctic campaigns after SEES.nl.

Action list – please also those already with an NPP jacket:
1. Read the information brochure (see pdf). It includes the size table.
2. Read and sign the user agreement.
3. Email Renno Hokwerda (r.hokwerda@nwo.nl) with:
a. In the subject line: ‘SEES jacket’
b. your model male/female
c. your size
d. Requests for extended use (for other polar fieldwork after SEES) – unless agreed otherwise in
personal communication with Renno, you will need to return the jacket after SEES.nl.
e. Delivery address / pick-up at Ortelius?
f. The user agreement
Note: we are running out of Female S and M models fast… if a Female L, Male S or Male M would also work, please indicate. We will do our best, but cannot make promises.

Some notes:
Media: public broadcasters are often hesitant to include logos, but the logos are non-commercial. So resist the urge to take the jacket off when asked to do so by a camera (wo)man.
Old jackets: may be kept in use, for what they are worth, but not on the SEES expedition. They are now officially retired, but there is a life after retirement, too.
Stocks: we don’t have an infinite number of jackets, so you might be receiving your jacket quite late after someone else finished fieldwork. Similarly, your jacket may be used for another researcher after SEES.
Pollen-free: It is common sense and official policy that we do not introduce non-indigenous species to the Arctic, so before departure, vacuum your pockets, Velcro strips etc.
