Board of Examiners

The Board of Examiners assesses whether students meet the requirements set out in the Teaching and Examination Regulations with regard to knowledge, insight and skills needed to obtain a degree. The Board ensures the quality of assessments and the final examination.

Its members include examiners from various Law degree programmes of the Faculty and an external assessment expert. The Board of Examiners therefore only deals with matters with regard to Law programmes.

The Board of Examiners is appointed by the Faculty Board, based on the Dutch Higher Education Act. They have the following tasks:

• Ensuring the quality of exams and the final assessment
• Verifying whether students meet the requirements to obtain a degree
• Establishing rules for proper conduct during exams
• Judging cases of fraud and imposing sanctions
• Extending the validity period of exams
• Administering exams in alternative ways in special cases
• Granting exemptions for courses based on previously achieved results

Some tasks are delegated to the Official Secretary and study advisers.

As part of their tasks, the Board of Examiners has created an assessment quality plan.

Disagree with a decision?
This can be a decision from the Board of Examiners or a decision from an examiner (so a grade you were awarded). You can appeal to the Board of Appeals for Examinations within six weeks of the decision. This Board of Appeals will first request a settlement meeting between you and the Board of Examiners.
