LLM in Public International Law

Programme requirements

In order to obtain an LLM degree in Public International Law a candidate must successfully complete at least 60 ECTS:
a. Five compulsory course:          
-   Advanced International Law (6 ECTS)
-   International Human Rights Law (6 ECTS)
-   International Institutional Law (6 ECTS)
-   Settlement of International Disputes (6 ECTS)
-   UN Peacekeeping and Peace Enforcement (6 ECTS)
b. One optional compulsory course from this list (at least 6 ECTS):
-       International Environmental Law (6 ECTS)
-       International Humanitarian Law (6 ECTS)
-       Refugee and Asylum Law (6 ECTS)
c. The seminar International Law in the 21st Century (6 ECTS)
d. A Law in Practice module (6 ECTS)
e. Master’s thesis (12 ECTS)

Programme structure

The programme consists of six courses (minimum), a seminar, a Law in Practice module and the writing of a Master’s thesis. The programme requires one year, full-time to complete.

Exchange period in the first semester (Fall term), as exchange student:
- Advanced International Law (6 ECTS)
- International Human Rights Law (6 ECTS)
- International Institutional Law (6 ECTS)
- Seminar International Law in the 21st Century (6 ECTS)
- UN Peacekeeping and Peace Enforcement (6 ECTS)

LLM completion in the second semester as registered regular LLM student (Winter/Spring term), after graduation at home university:
- One course from the following list (at least 6 ECTS):
> International Environmental Law (6 ECTS)
> International Humanitarian Law (6 ECTS)
> Refugee and Asylum Law (6 ECTS)
- Settlement of International Disputes (6 ECTS)
- Law in Practice (6 ECTS)
- Master’s thesis (12 ECTS)
