Examinations
At a glance
For each course, there are two exam possibilities per academic year: the exam and the resit. The exam dates are scheduled at the beginning of the semester. Once they are set, the exam dates cannot be changed.

Exams are in person in Groningen (no online exams).

Once published, exam dates are fixed.
Plan travel accordingly: an early flight home is not a reason for a special exam arrangement.
Exact exam times (time of day) are announced later.
No online exams: all exams must be taken in person in Groningen.
Exam registration
Digital exams (most common)

If you are correctly and on time enrolled in the course, the Faculty will usually register you for:

the first exam, and
-
the resit (if applicable).

Oral exams and papers

There may be no automatic registration.

Details (date/time/deadline) are communicated via the Student Portal/Brightspace and/or the lecturer.
Rule of thumb:
If it is not a standard digital exam, always check the course information and announcements.

Oral examination

Exam Results

First exam & resit
Each course normally has two exam moments per academic year:

First examination

Resit
If you pass the first exam, you do not need to attend the resit.
If you fail both the first exam and the resit, you normally cannot pass the course again in the same academic year. A third attempt is not possible, except in rare cases (e.g., the final exam of a full law degree programme).
