Symposium Emergency Law
When: | Fr 06-06-2025 12:45 - 17:15 |
Where: | Lokin Room, Röling Building, Oude Boteringestraat 18, Groningen |
On Friday afternoon, 6 June, the Netherlands Association for Comparative Law will host its annual symposium in the Röling Building of the Faculty of Law, University of Groningen. This year’s theme is Emergency Law.
When ordinary law falls short in providing solutions to acute dangers and problems in extraordinary circumstances, emergency law comes around the corner. By applying emergency law, far-reaching measures can be taken. But is emergency law always rightly invoked? Where are the limits in the application of emergency law? How is accountability when emergency law is applied?
The symposium features contributions from both international and Dutch experts, including:
-
Leon Verstappen (University of Groningen)
-
Bryan Dennis Gabito Tiojanco (University of Tokyo)
-
Joelle Grogan (CEU Democracy Institute, via video call)
-
Adriaan Wierenga (Groningen/Leiden)
-
Luc Verhey (Council of State / Leiden University)
Language: English and Dutch
Costs: € 20 (non-members), € 30 (incl. membership NVvR)
Students and PhD candidates can attend free of charge. Instead of registering via the online form, they should email l.c.a.verstappen@rug.nl from their university email account.
