Opening Academic Year 2022-2023

The opening of the academic year of the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies will take place on Thursday on 8 September 2022. This year’s celebration will start in the Lutheran Church (Haddingestraat 23, Groningen). There will be a walk-in with coffee, tea and cake from 2:30 p.m., after which the official programme will start at 3 p.m.
'Religion and worldviews in international diplomacy: lessons learnt from recent global politics and security challenges'
Our esteemed guest will be Danish diplomat Ms. Merete Bilde. She has over 20 years’ experience working for the Danish foreign ministry, the European External Action Service of the EU and now currently NATO headquarters in Brussels, where she has been integrally involved in recent international events such as the withdrawal from Afghanistan and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Drawing on her wealth of knowledge, Ms. Bilde will share insights regarding the place of religion in contemporary international politics and security, what in her view is needed to enhance our understanding of international politics when it comes to religion, and engage with questions and comments from students, staff and other guests.
After the official opening, we will continue at the faculty (Oude Boteringestraat 38, Groningen) for the second part of the opening with drinks, barbecue and live music in the faculty garden.
