The internet is broken. Is AI next?
Big Tech controls the platforms we use to communicate, the data we produce and, increasingly, the AI systems that shape what we see and know. But who gets to decide where this is heading? And what can we still change?
On Monday 19 October,16:00 (doors open at 15:30), bring your questions to two of the Netherlands' sharpest voices on technology and society:
Marleen Stikker - founder of Waag Futurelab, internet pioneer and author of Het internet is stuk, maar we kunnen het repareren
Daniel Mügge - Professor of Political Arithmetic at the University of Amsterdam, researching how Europe governs AI
Expect no lectures and slides, but an informal presentation by the speakers after which you have the chance to ask your questions and set the agenda!

Marleen Stikker
Marleen Stikker is the founder and director of Waag Futurelab. In 1993 she stood at the cradle of the Dutch internet as "mayor" of De Digitale Stad, and since its founding in 1994 Waag has grown into a leading European research institute for technology and society. She helped found Creative Commons Nederland, Fairphone and PublicSpaces, is Professor of Practice at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, and wrote Het internet is stuk, maar we kunnen het repareren (2019). She was born in Groningen.

Daniel Mügge
Daniel Mügge is Professor of Political Arithmetic at the University of Amsterdam. He leads the NWO Vici project RegulAite, which investigates how the EU governs artificial intelligence and how those politics are shaped by global geopolitical and economic competition. He also co-founded the UvA research platform and priority area AI & Politics. His work asks what is missing from the debate on European AI sovereignty: a public conversation about which AI future we actually want.
The entry is free. Organised by THEA, Noorderlicht and Jantina Tammes School.
