Artificial Intelligence in Art: Interdisciplinary Perspectives (Art, Technology andCopyright Law)

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming our society in real time and in many unprecedented ways. Artistic creation is one of the fields that is highly impacted by the emergence and the prevalence of AI technologies. Embodied systems and generative art, including artworks and music, are only some of the artistic mediums where AI applications are helping artists innovate and continue creating. 

While creative opportunities are expanding, fundamental questions about the essence of creativity, authorship, responsibility and the relationship of the artist with the technology itself are being raised. 

These questions cannot be answered from a single disciplinary perspective. Understanding the role of AI in art requires a dialogue between artists experimenting with emerging technologies, researchers studying their societal implications, technological experts developing and analysing AI systems, and lawyers examining the legal frameworks that regulate AI creations. This is exactly the conversation that we are going to have at this interdisciplinary event with two panels featuring artists and researchers working with the technologies, the creative processes and the law themselves. 

This event is targeted to artists, students, researchers and anyone interested in AI and its implications in Art.

This event is organised by RUG and Minerva Academy and more specifically: Professor G.P. (Jeanne) Mifsud-Bonnici, Associate Professor Marina Markellou, Dr. Rosa Wevers and Kleanthi Sardeli. The event is supported by the Jantina Tames School Grassroots Grant.
