Changes to bicycle routes and car park P1, Zernike Campus Groningen

The preparation for the construction of the Feringa Building on the Zernike Campus Groningen necessitates some changes to the traffic situation. As of now, bicycle routes will be changed (because Nijenborgh will be closed off largely) and P1 car park will be relocated (and deconstructed in phases). The work will be implemented in phases, by Plegt-Vos, until early August 2017.

Overview of changes to the traffic situation:

A) Moving P1

On the site of the current P1 car park, phase 1 of the Feringa Building will be built. This means that P1 will be moved to a new location at the other side of Nijenborgh.
Implementation: now – early August 2017

B) Diversion Zernikelaan bicycle route behind the security service

For traffic safety reasons, cyclists who enter the campus via the Zernikelaan will soon be diverted behind the security service building (B1 on the plan). This means that construction traffic from Zernikelaan will be able to turn safely into Nijenborgh, creating a clearly visible crossroads between construction traffic and cyclists.
Incidentally, from 21 May no bicycle traffic will be possible to the north of the new P1 car park. The turning of the bicycle path (B2 on the plan) will then be closed off.

C) Diversion of bicycle route from Selwerd

In order to separate the streams of construction and bicycle traffic, cyclists coming from Selwerd can use a new, temporary bicycle path across the new car park P1 to reach Zernikelaan. Nijenborgh road will be mostly closed off to cyclists and only be in use for construction traffic.
Implementation: from 9 June 2017.

D) Closing of the east side of Nijenborgh

At the same time, the bicycle route behind Nijenborgh 4 – along the water on the east side of the campus – will also be closed. This is where the Feringa Building will rise. To reach the northern part of the campus, cyclists use the Zernikelaan.
