Eligible candidates:

Scholars within 10 years of their PhD award.

  • Normally hold a permanent position at a higher education or research institution.
  • Career breaks may be taken into account.

Eligible research:

Innovative research that challenges existing explanatory frameworks, addresses empirical problems lacking adequate theory or methods, or introduces controversial approaches to incumbent theories. Projects that cross-fertilize empirical methods and theoretical insights from social sciences, or interdisciplinary initiatives combining social sciences and humanities, are encouraged. Applications from humanities scholars are also welcome.

Countries of origin: Eligible scholars must be based in Europe. No restrictions for nationality.

Grant information:
  • Funding: Up to €67,500 to cover teaching buy-out and associated administrative costs for up to 12 months.
  • Additional support for research expenses may be provided on a matched-funding basis.

Purposes: To support independent-minded researchers in developing and presenting original research ideas that explore new approaches and suggest solutions to real-world social problems.
