Grant information:

Purposes: Funding is intended for PhD studies and post-docs, and for individual researchers. The grant amounts in the past years have varied between €1,500 and €15,000. Grants are personal and cannot be transferred to a third party. You can apply by submitting an application in the grant system in August.

Personal grants are intended to allow research leave for the recipient. However, the grant is not a salary for work done in an employment or service relationship. If the recipient of the grant does not have the possibility of a full research leave, the research can be combined with clinical work, provided that the research proceeds as planned. Applications may include research material or license costs.

Eligible candidates: PhD students in Life Sciences, Medicine and Health Sciences, Social, Economic and Behavorial Sciences

  • Finnish Brain Foundation awards grants for scientific research of brain and nervous system or closely related diseases.
  • Funding is intended for PhD studies
  • Funding per research area in 2022: Alzheimer and other memory disorders 108,000 EUR - Child and adolescent psychiatry 58,000 EUR - Disability and mental retardation 45,000 EUR
  • Neurology (related to traumatic brain injury, cerebral circulation disorder, epilepsy, MS and Parkinson’s disease) 34,500 EUR - Muscular dystrophy 4,500 EUR - Total: 250,000 EUR
  • The personal grants are intended to allow full-time research leave for the recipient.
  • However, the grant is not a salary for work done in an employment or service relationship. (If the grant recipient does not have the opportunity for full research leave, the recipient can use 35% of the total weekly working time for clinical or similar work during the grant
  • payment period. However, at least 65% of working time should be spent on research.)
  • You can only apply for a grant from one fund.

Application:

The grant is applied for by filling out the electronic application form with attachments in the online service https://aivosaatio.apurahat.net/.

  • The application service opens on August 1 and closes on August 31 annually.
  • The application requires:

- a report on the ongoing investigation and its progress;

- detailed research plan (in Finnish, Swedish or English);

- list of publications;

- track record;

- thesis supervisor’s statement;

- ethics committee approval.

  • The applicant will be notified personally of the granted grant.
