Additional information

Eligible candidates:
  • Researchers within five years of their PhD award (extensions up to eight years for career interruptions).
  • Applicants must be active RSA members throughout the grant period.
  • Projects must be single-author; team or co-authored applications are not eligible.
  • Applicants who have previously received RSA research grants are not eligible.

Grant information:
  • Funding Amount: Up to £10,000 (approximately $13,300 or €11,800).
  • Duration: Up to 18 months.

Eligible Costs:

  • Travel and subsistence.
  • Teaching or research buy-out (up to £2,500).
  • Research assistance (up to £5,000).
  • Consumables and conference attendance.

Ineligible Costs:

  • Institutional overheads, equipment, software, books, and childcare expenses.

Purposes: To enable early-career researchers to conduct a discrete, high-quality piece of research in regional studies or science, fostering academic growth and leadership potential.

Countries of origin: Open to researchers worldwide who are affiliated with an eligible higher education institution

Application:

The application process consists of two stages:

  •  Expression of Interest: Submit an online form with project details, a brief summary, and an initial budget.
  •  Full Application: Submit a detailed research proposal (1,500 words), CV, budget, and an institutional support letter.
