CoRE IPD 2026 Seasonal School: The Roots of Inequality, Poverty & Deprivation in Africa

The Cluster of Research Excellence in Inequalities, Poverty and Deprivation (CoRE IPD) is pleased to invite applications for the 2026 CoRE IPD Seasonal School, taking place from 16 - 27 November 2026 at the University of Cape Town, South Africa.

The Seasonal School brings together emerging researchers and leading academics for two weeks of intensive learning, discussion, and collaboration focused on some of the most pressing development challenges facing Africa and the Global South. Through interactive lectures, applied training, and opportunities to engage with peers and faculty, participants will strengthen both their theoretical understanding and practical research skills.

What to Expect

Participants can look forward to interactive lectures and discussions led by renowned academics from the African Research Universities' Alliance (ARUA) as well as The Guild. The programme will feature contributions from CoRE IPD academic leads and partner institution researchers, including leading scholars working in the fields of inequality, poverty, development economics, and applied econometrics.

This year's electives include:

  • The Roots of Inequality, Poverty & Deprivation in Africa (16 - 20 November)
  • Impact Evaluation (23 - 27 November)
  • Panel Data Training (23 - 27 November)

Each elective combines rigorous academic content with practical applications, providing participants with valuable methodological and analytical tools that can be applied to their own research. Electives carries a fee of €300 each, or two electives for €500. It is not possible to attend both 'Impact Evaluation' and 'Panel Data Training,' as these electives run concurrently.

Attendance

The 2026 Seasonal School is a primarily in-person event hosted at the University of Cape Town.

Limited funding is available to support successful applicants with travel and accommodation costs. Applicants requiring financial assistance are able to indicate this during the application process.
