Shared course offer at other universities

University teaching staff can develop professionally through a national offering compiled by Dutch universities united in the Professional Development Exchange Hub. From Rotterdam to Maastricht, Amsterdam to Groningen, there are face-to-face meetings, online courses, webinars and hybrid events at various locations and dates. The institutions make it possible for teachers to choose from a rich, varied offer that suits their own development and interests, without being tied to a fixed location.

Eligibility criteria for staff to participate:

  • You are employed and have formal teaching duties at one of the participating universities (Open Universiteit, Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen, Maastricht University, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, Universiteit Leiden, Tilburg University en Technische Universiteit Delft en Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, Wageningen University & Research, University of Twente, University of Humanistic Studies).
  • In most cases, it is of added value if you have already obtained the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ/BKO).
  • Certain activities offered are only available in Dutch or English. To participate in these, you require sufficient proficiency in the language offered.

Evaluation

Have you taken part in a course, workshop or webinar from another participating university? Then we’d love to hear what you thought! We like to hear your opinion afterwards. At the end of the offer, you will receive an evaluation link from us.

For more information, you can contact CTL rug.nl

Leiden University

Looking to broaden your knowledge and practical skills in relation to the responsible and effective use of Large Language Models (LLMs)? Then this online course is for you!

Developed by educational professionals at LLInC, Leiden University, this course helps you explore how AI can support teaching and learning in a responsible, effective, and intentional way. You will gain a clear overview of the opportunities, risks, and practical applications of AI, along with concrete guidance on how to implement it in your educational practice.

Rather than recommending the use of AI or specific tools, the course equips you with the foundational knowledge you need to make informed decisions about when, why, and how to use AI in your teaching.

AI Assessment Toolkit (Assessment methods & AI)

AI Assessment Toolkit (Assessment methods & AI)

Leiden University

The rapid rise of generative AI has fundamentally changed how we think about summative assessment. What does an assessment actually measure, and to what extent can you reliably evaluate student performance when AI is part of the equation?

This toolkit is not meant to help choose the “best” assessment method for a course. That decision should already be made through constructive alignment of learning objectives, teaching activities, and assessment. Instead, the toolkit helps educators reflect on whether an existing assessment can be made AI-resilient, and under which conditions this is possible.

Showcasing AI in practice: Episode II

Showcasing AI in practice: Episode Ii

Maastricht University

In this session, we will welcome Dr. Ingrid Samset, PhD, Assistant Professor at Leiden University, NL, and Dr. Matthew Voice, Assistant Professor at Warwick University, UK. Ingrid will talk to us about a set of pedagogical AI assistants (e.g. Tutor, Architect, Mirror, Critic, Historical Persona) she has designed using their own in-house LLM, to support students in understanding course materials, structuring ideas and developing arguments in her Postcolonial World course. These assistants are integrated as 24/7 collaborative learning tools that enhance engagement, critical thinking and human–AI collaboration, while complementing (rather than replacing) traditional teaching and class participation. Matthew has been very active in experimenting with AI in education, first for formative assessment and now he is using AI to address possible decline in student preparation and a growing tendency to rely on AI-generated summaries of readings. He deliberately integrates AI into pre-tutorial work by asking students to generate and critically compare AI reading summaries with the original texts, helping them reflect on what may be gained or lost through AI use while strengthening critical thinking and engagement with the material

Tilburg University

Tilburg.ai is Tilburg University’s initiative for exploring and developing the responsible use of artificial intelligence in education, research and university practice. It brings together AI tools, knowledge, training and expertise to help students, teachers, researchers and staff make effective and responsible use of generative AI. The initiative is continuously evolving, with new tools, resources and materials added along the way. You can find, for example:

  • AI tools: Tilburg.ai develops AI applications for students and teachers, including course-specific chatbots, a CV assistant, and other AI tools for education.
  • Tutorials & knowledge base: Articles on topics such as prompt engineering, AI tools, AI safety, privacy, bias, and the use of generative AI in teaching, learning, and research. The site now features dozens of articles.
  • Prompt engineering course: A free, ten-part course on how to write more effective prompts.
  • E-learning on responsible AI use: Designed for students and staff, covering how large language models (LLMs) work, their capabilities and limitations, and the ethical considerations surrounding their use.
  • Tilly: Tilburg University’s own AI chatbot. Tilly is more than a simple ChatGPT clone: the platform has been specifically designed for use in higher education and can work with course-specific materials. This allows teachers, for example, to provide students with a chatbot that answers questions based on the sources and materials of a particular course.

The Inclusive Teacher: e-learning for teachers

The Inclusive Teacher: e-learning for teachers

University of Groningen

The Inclusive Teacher e-learning course offers a range of tools and tips to make student diversity a valuable asset, leading to more effective teaching and greater student success. Most teachers already do a lot to promote inclusion. However, sometimes it is unclear how you can add to your skills set, or why certain teaching strategies could benefit (groups of) learners. As this course shows, inclusive teaching is often about making small, practical adjustments that lead to sustainable improvement. Topics include inclusive course design, pedagogy, group work, and assessment.

The e-learning is both accessible and interactive and offers a choice of activities. Through discussion boards, you can share best practices with other course participants. Each course unit takes 2-3 hours to complete. If you do the Introduction and at least one other unit, you can get a Certificate of Participation. If you do all units and a reflective assignment at the end, you can gain a Proof of Competence.

Emotions in the classroom: introducing a pedagogy of hope

Emotions in the classroom: introducing a pedagogy of hope

Wageningen University

In this course we explore nature inclusive methods that can support sharing, reflection and processing of emotions around global uncertainty, climate change, ecological and social decline/loss/impairment.
Here you can read a report about the course from one of the previous participants.

Increasingly, staff and students are confronted with these realities throughout their study program or research efforts and may experience various levels of anxiety or emotional despair. It is usually beyond the scope of an academic lecture to address emotional reflection and processing. However, teachers can also no longer ignore the reality of deeper emotional levels reaching the surface in class or in conversation with students. This course can support teachers to be better prepared for emotional responses. In three days, this module dives into key concepts, methods and facilitation skills of working with emotions in class.
