Policies

University of Groningen Press has a number of policies in place to ensure the quality of our publications.

Archiving and preservation

Archiving and preservation

All University of Groningen Press content is archived in the e-Depot of the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (books and series) or the PKP Preservation Network (journals). These archives ensure that all our content will always be available as open access.

Copyright & licensing

University of Groningen Press maintains an author-friendly rights policy which includes granting authors exclusive, unrestricted rights to the online publication. Authors retain copyright of the work and simply grant University of Groningen Press the right to the initial publication.

Works are published under a Creative Commons license, which allows for future redistribution of the work, provided that the author is named and University of Groningen Press is given due credit as the first place of publication. Our recommended license for journals is CC BY as this is best aligned with the principles of open access as defined by the Budapest Open Access Initiative, and is recommended by the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA).

Our recommended license for books and textbooks is CC BY-NC-SA.

Indexing & DOI

Indexing & DOI

Content published at University of Groningen Press is indexed with CrossRef and assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI). This is a persistent identifier which means that the publication can always be found easily
All of our metadata is openly available for harvesting by indexing services through the OAI-PMH metadata protocol.

All our books and journals are listed in OCLC Worldcat, making them available through the online catalogues of educational institutions.

Eligible journals are indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). Eligible books will be indexed in the Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB).

ORCID

ORCID

University of Groningen Press strongly recommends that authors register with Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID). ORCID provides a unique and persistent digital identifier (an ORCID iD) that enables accurate attribution and improves the discoverability of published publications.

Peer review policy

Peer review

All journal articles and scholarly books are sent for external peer review prior to an editorial decision on whether to accept or reject them. Details of the publishing process and peer reviewing model for journals is given by the editorial team of individual journals.

The University of Groningen (UG) considers open access publishing a priority, and aims to encourage it within the academic community (Open Access Policy UG).
