The theory of complex dynamic systems offers a versatile working model for practicing psychologists and educators. It provides a framework for thinking about and drawing inspiration from difficult problems that are a direct result of the intrinsic complexity of human behavior. Complexity—which is not the same as “complicated” or “intricate”—is linked to the fact that practitioners deal with individual processes within their specific contexts. Unlike conventional psychological and educational theories and standard scientific research, the theory of complex dynamic systems offers tools for understanding complexity and process. This book is the first to explain this theory within the context of psychological and educational practice and to offer suggestions for practical action.
