About the book’s content

Dario Monti  (is an archaeologist specialising in the societies of pre-Roman Italy, with a focus on landscape archaeology, settlement patterns, and human–environment relationships. He earned his PhD from the Université catholique de Louvain in 2024 and is currently a Collaborateur scientifique at UCLouvain and a Fellow of the Royal Netherlands Institute in Rome, KNIR).

This volume offers a new perspective on the inner Sabina, the mountainous region of central Italy traditionally regarded as isolated and peripheral. Drawing on landscape archaeology, settlement analysis, and GIS-based research, it reconstructs how local communities organised their territories, managed resources, and adapted to a challenging environment during the first millennium BC until the Roman conquest in 290 BC.

The study reveals the inner Sabina as a dynamic and interconnected landscape, making an important contribution to our understanding of mountain societies and pre-Roman Italy.
