New UGP publication: Nait Soez’n: De Groninger Studentenbond in de jaren zeventig – en wat daaraan vooraf ging –

The book Nait Soez’n: De Groninger Studentenbond in de jaren zeventig – en wat daaraan vooraf ging – is now available online and open access at University of Groningen Press (UGP).
Ruud Weijdeveld was the initiator of research into the history of the Groningen Student Union.
About the book
The Groninger Studentenbond (GSb) was founded in 1971. This did not come out of the blue. Advocacy and social engagement had long been the driving forces behind the student movement.
This was particularly true from the 1960s onwards, when new groups of students began to populate the universities and a new youth culture took shape. This book describes the history of its origins and shows the (political) weight that the GSb was able to bring to bear in the 1970s. It also shows how, in the late 1970s, doubts arose, decline set in, and the concept of the ‘political union’ was abandoned.
It is an inspiring story about organizational strength and determination. It is also relevant for anyone who is currently working to improve the position of students, combat climate change, and promote international solidarity.
