Communicative English skills for Academic advisors
|Duration:||8 hours (workshop)|
|Audience:||UG Academic advisors|
In a 8 hour workshop, we will explore and practice the language skills that Academic Advisors need in order to deal with international students effectively. Assuming that most of the terminology relevant to specific study programmes is in place, we will focus on the more informal and empathetic language needed to discuss any personal problems and practical issues students may wish to share with an Academic Advisor.
The Language Centre tutor will bring relevant materials and use role plays based on realistic situations to practice the language needed in high stakes conversations between Academic Advisor and international student.

Language and Culture Policy (LCP) of the University of Groningen
A Language and Culture Policy (LCP) was approved at the University of Groningen in 2014, in consultation with students and staff from throughout the organization. The Language Centre was closely involved in drafting and developing the policy, and will in the period 2014-2018 contribute substantially to the implementation of the policy by actively offering targeted support to faculties and service units, support staff, lecturers and students. This support will mainly be in the fields of language skills and intercultural competences. Please see the LCP website.
