SuSo Webinar: 'Global drivers and enablers of illicit economies: Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime in conversation with the Illicit Trade Group'

When:We 19-05-2021 16:00 - 17:00
Where:Livestream

Together with The Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC) & The Illicit Trade Group (ITG) the Sustainable Society is organising the event: 'Global drivers and enablers of illicit economies: Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime in conversation with the Illicit Trade Group'.

This event focuses on the newly impressionistic report published by GI-TOC, aimed at analyzing the global drivers and enablers of the illicit economy. Our planet is currently facing a slew of global challenges, ranging from climate change to pandemic outcomes, inequality dimensions, or migration. Transnational organized crime is a common denominator to all these issues and actively enables them and benefits from them. As a result, organized crime is a driving force behind unsustainable development.

Based on the contents of the recent report by GI-TOC, this event exposes the criminal underworld that has impacted the upper worlds of business and politics. On a second stance, it will reflect on the current and future global challenges that result from its practices. Summer Walker and Walter Kemp from GI-TOC will outline the main aspects of the report, while Francesco Giumelli and Pim Geelhoed from ITG will moderate and define a discussion terrain.

  • When: Wednesday 19 May 2021, 16:00 - 17:00 hrs (UTC+02:00)
  • Where: BlueJeans
